THE HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
In Grade 9 students who elect to follow the “SAT PATHWAY” begin a series of courses which run for FOUR YEARS, leading to potential award of the NIS High School Diploma. During Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12 a minimum cumulative total of twenty-six (26) credits (as per the requirements of Figure 1 below) are needs to graduate from NIS. Students who meet these requirements will be eligible to receive the NIS High School Diploma. A maximum of one (1) credit is awarded for the successful completion of each full-year course. Course credits are allocated to students who fully meet the school assessment requirements (as per policy) in each course of study. No estimated grades are permitted. The conditions in Figure 1 must be met in full

5 All elective credits will be undertaken during Grade 11 & 12 6 A minimum of five (5) Grade 12 course credits is required.
Please note that on its own a “High School Diploma” is not usually accepted for university entrance purposes.
NB
Where children join the school late (after the start of G9), or where a child fails a course of study (as stipulated by the school), parents will be obliged to enroll children in additional courses in order to obtain the required credits to achieve the NIS High School Diploma. These courses will take place after school, and will be formally assessed at the end of the period of study. Additional course fees will be charged to parents in such cases.

SAT
Globally, the vast majority universities will not accept a ‘High School Diploma’ alone for the purpose of university entrance. Students who undertake the “SAT PATHWAY” to university must also sit internationally recognized qualifications that are widely accepted for the purpose of university entrance. Within the American System the majority of these tests are created and administered by College Board. The most widely recognized, are the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and the SAT II Subject Tests. At NIS these university entrance exams will be offered during the last two years of ‘High School’ (Grade 11 & Grade 12).
NIS UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS TESTS
NIS is a College Board SAT examination centre. College Board offers SIX SAT examination dates throughout the course of the year. NIS students will be given TWO opportunities to take the SAT I or SAT II examinations during any one school year. The school may enter students for the SAT examinations as follows:
